Removed from District 6
Friday, February 18, 2022
Today the enemies of black leadership in Georgia made an egregious error. Their plan to remove my residence and subsequently me from District 6 passed the Georgia legislature. How important must my leadership be to Augusta-Richmond County that the enemies of black leadership passed a bill for the governor to sign into law to deny me, the privilege to continue serving the voters of district 6 as their duly elected leader of choice?
Just think about it. Of all the black elected officials in Augusta-Richmond County why target A. K. Hasan? The answer is quite clear, my leadership matters, I’ve made a difference and my achievements bred haters of a broad variety.
There is an adage that says to make things clear, “Put A Face To It.” My face is evidence that is proof of intent that Senators Burns and Anderson’s Redistricting Bill is designed to reduce the number of black elected leaders, dilute black voting strength, and stop groundbreaking black leadership in Augusta-Richmond County. My, 2018 election to the Richmond County Board of Education gave black board members a 6-4 advantage over white for the first time in the school system’s history.
As for the upcoming local redistricting court case, take comfort in the fact the federal judge will see my face when he applies the high standards of law as outlined in the Voting Rights Act to the seriously flawed local redistricting map passed by the state legislature. I stand ready to help the attorneys that will try the case. I would be delighted to join the case as a friend of the court. Black voting strength shall prevail!
I say to the voters of Augusta-Richmond County, do not lose focus. Let’s keep our eyes on the goal and turnout at the polls. There are still opportunities available for a proven leader to qualify for the May 24th elections. I will announce my plans soon. The will of the people must be heard. I believe in strong leadership. I plan to lead by example.
Thanks for reporting the news,
A K Hasan
